Who we are

This website is run by Customer Engine Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 16620679). Our registered office is Unit 82A, James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds IP28 7DE. We decide how your personal data is used, which makes us its “controller” under UK data protection law.

We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC088782.

For anything to do with your data, email info@customer-engine.co.uk.

What we collect

When you fill in the Trade form

The Trade form asks whether you'd use Trade, your name, your email address, and anything else you'd like to tell us. If you answer “Not for me”, your name and email are optional, so you can tell us why without saying who you are.

When you email us

We receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write.

When you browse the site

We collect anonymous usage statistics (see Analytics). Our hosting provider also keeps short-lived technical logs, which include your IP address, to keep the site running and secure.

We don't ask for sensitive information, such as health details, and we'd ask you not to include any in a form or email.

How we use it, and our legal basis

UK data protection law requires a legal basis for each use of personal data. For everything below, ours is legitimate interests: we have a genuine reason for the use, it's what you'd reasonably expect, and it has little impact on your privacy.

What we do With what
Reply to you, and follow up about early access or a short research conversation if you've asked to hear from us Your contact details and what you told us
Understand how businesses work today and shape what we build Your form answers and messages
See which pages are useful and where the site falls short Anonymous usage statistics
Keep the site secure and filter out spam Technical logs and form spam checks

We won't add you to a mailing list. If we'd like to send you product news, we'll ask first. You can object to any of the uses above, and we'll stop unless we have a compelling reason to continue.

Analytics

We use Umami to see how the site is used, with our data held on Umami Cloud's EU servers. Umami doesn't use cookies or store anything on your device.

It records which pages are viewed and actions such as pressing a button, playing the Trade film or sending a form. For forms it records only that one was started or sent, and for the Trade form which answer was picked, never what you typed. It also records the page you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and an approximate location (country, region or city) worked out from your IP address.

To count visitors without cookies, Umami turns your IP address and browser details into a one-way code, using a secret value that changes regularly. Your IP address itself isn't stored. The code lets Umami tell that two visits came from the same browser, but it isn't used to identify you, and visits can't be linked once the secret value changes. We don't identify visitors, record sessions or build profiles of individuals. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, we don't record your visit at all.

The Trade film

The film on the Trade page is hosted by Vimeo. Nothing loads from Vimeo until you press play. When you do, Vimeo receives your IP address and browser details so it can stream the video. We ask Vimeo not to track you or set cookies. Vimeo's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf, under contract, and only on our instructions:

  • Netlify hosts the website and receives form submissions and technical logs.
  • Umami provides our analytics, as described above.
  • Zoho provides our email, so it holds messages sent to and from our address.

We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers. We'd only disclose it to anyone else if the law required us to.

Data outside the UK

Umami stores our analytics and Zoho stores our email in the EU, which the UK recognises as giving equivalent protection. Netlify is based in the United States. Where your data is handled there, it's protected by safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum to standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Form answers and emails: up to two years after we were last in touch, then deleted. If you become a customer, our customer terms take over.
  • Analytics: kept for up to six months, then deleted.
  • Technical logs: kept by Netlify for a short period for security, then deleted.

You can ask us to delete your details sooner at any time.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong or incomplete
  • delete it
  • restrict how we use it, or stop using it
  • send it to you or another organisation in a reusable format

Email info@customer-engine.co.uk. It's free, and we'll reply within one month. We may need to confirm who you are before acting on a request.

Cookies

This website doesn't set cookies or use similar browser storage, so you won't see a cookie banner. If you play the Trade film, we ask Vimeo not to set any either.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first and we'll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal data, for example by adding a new service, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
